Cedar Impressions® Individual 5" Shingle Siding

Cedar Impressions® Individual 5" Shingle Siding by CertainTeed is an injection-molded polypropylene (PP) polymer shingle that replicates the authentic look of individually installed cedar sawmill shingles. Each box contains shingles in 6 different widths — 4", 4¼", 5", 5¾", 6¾", and 8" — creating a truly random, natural shingle pattern when installed. The Ageless Cedar™ Colour Blend system provides Light, Medium, and Dark shingles within each colour blend, which are mixed during installation to replicate the natural tonal variation of real cedar. Certified to 231 psf wind load design pressure (ICC-ES ESL-1537) and Flame Spread Rating 75 (ICC-ES ESL-1541), it is backed by a Lifetime Limited Non-Prorated Warranty for original single-family homeowners.

Installation Guide

Critical Installation Rules

  1. Must be installed in accordance with CertainTeed LLC's published installation instructions and the attachment requirements of NBC 2020 Subsection 9.27.5.

  2. Must be installed on a solid sheathing substrate capable of supporting imposed wind loads, including positive and negative transverse loads.

  3. Sheathing must be covered with a sheathing membrane as required by NBC 2020 Subsection 9.27.3.

  4. Flashing must be provided at all openings, penetrations, and abutments with dissimilar materials per NBC 2020 Subsections 9.27.3.7 and 9.27.3.8.

  5. Individual 5" shingles must be attached using No. 16 gauge staples, minimum length 1½" (38 mm), crown width 7/16" (11.1 mm), spaced ¾" (19.1 mm) from each shingle edge into the sheathing.

  6. Siding and accessories must be fastened to framing with a minimum specific gravity of 0.42, or to structural sheathing, with minimum fastener embedment of ¾" (19.1 mm) into framing.

  7. When fastening to structural sheathing, fastener penetration must be at least ¾" (19.1 mm) beyond the backside of the sheathing.

  8. Accessory materials (corners, starter strips, trim) must be fastened in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions; the starter strip must be fastened similar to the siding shingles.

  9. Install shingles using the Ageless Cedar™ Colour Blend system — mix Light, Medium, and Dark shingles from each blend randomly during installation to replicate the natural tonal variation of real cedar.

Storage & Handling

  • Clean with garden hose and soapy water; stubborn stains can be removed with household detergents.
  • For mold or mildew: mix 1/3 cup detergent, 2/3 cup Trisodium Phosphate, 1 quart 5% Sodium Hypochlorite (Clorox), and 3 quarts water.
  • Do not clean with a power washer.
  • Keep sources of fire (barbecues, combustible materials) away from siding — product will melt when exposed to significant heat.
