Mitten's M-Series trim coil runs 24" wide on a 30 m roll in heavy gauge, one side or two sides painted, and its gutter coil is 0.024" at 11-7/8" for forming seamless eavestrough on site. Key factors to evaluate when specifying aluminum trim & coil for your project.
Coil, or pre-formed fascia
Mitten's M-Series carries both. Trim coil is brake-formed on site for window and door wraps and for capping trim; pre-formed M-Series fascia comes in smooth and ribbed profiles at 6", 8", 8.5" and 10" widths and goes up in one piece. Note the regional split on that list: 8" fascia is Eastern Canada only and 8.5" is Western Canada only.
Width
M-Series trim coil is 24" wide, which covers window and door wraps, capping and narrow fascia work. Gutter coil is a different product at 11-7/8" wide, sized for roll-forming a 5" K-style eavestrough rather than for trim. Calculate the flat developed length of your widest profile before ordering coil width.
Colour selection
Mitten's 13-colour trim coil palette is coordinated to their siding lines, making it straightforward to specify matching fascia, window trim, and siding from a single colour system. White is the most popular choice for contrast against any siding colour. Almond, Clay, and Autumn Woodgrain are popular for warm-toned siding systems.
Gutter coil
Mitten's gutter coil is made for roll-formed eavestrough fabrication: 0.024" at 11-7/8" wide, one side or two sides painted, and colour-matched to the same 13-colour M-Series palette as the trim coil and fascia. Specify gutter coil (not trim coil) for any eavestrough application. They're not interchangeable.
Accessories
Mitten's aluminum line includes pre-formed downspouts, elbows, and end caps in matching colours. Sourcing downspouts from the same manufacturer as your eavestrough system ensures colour match and system compatibility.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between trim coil and soffit?
Trim coil (also called coil stock or fascia coil) is flat aluminum coil stock that is field-formed by a brake press into custom profiles - fascia wraps, window sills, drip caps, etc. Soffit is a pre-finished panel product with a formed profile specifically designed to cover the eave underside. Coil stock is raw flat material for custom brake work; soffit comes as finished panels ready to install.
Can I use trim coil to fabricate custom eavestroughs?
No - standard trim coil is not suitable for eavestrough fabrication. Use Mitten gutter coil. It is the heavier 0.024" gauge and it comes in the 11-7/8" width a gutter machine expects; trim coil is neither.
How do I match Mitten aluminum trim coil to their vinyl siding?
Mitten produces coordinated colour charts showing exact trim coil colours matched to each vinyl siding line. White trim coil (001) matches all Mitten siding lines and is the safe default.
