About Railings, Fencing & Privacy Screens
Three ways to finish the edge of a deck or a yard, all maintenance free. Imperial aluminum railings never rust and need no painting or staining, and come in three systems: the snap-together Monarch kit, the Monarch kit for glass, and Vision glass railing. Alpa vinyl railings are vinyl over a galvanized steel structure, for decks, porches and stair rails. Alpa vinyl fencing comes as pre-assembled 4' and 6' panels in 11 styles, from full privacy to lattice.
For a screen rather than a fence, our own WPC louver privacy screen uses 12' composite boards in a 2" x 4" or 2" x 2" profile, set into louver brackets and finished with end caps. All of it is available through our Newmarket showroom for contractors and homeowners across our service area.

Key factors to evaluate when specifying railings, fencing & privacy screens for your project.
Aluminum railings
Imperial Kool-Ray railings are powder-coated aluminum and come in 36" and 42" heights. The Monarch ready-to-assemble kit has snap-in spindles and comes in 46", 59" and 72" lengths; the glass systems use 5 mm tempered glass. Colours are White, Black, Warm Beige, Clay, Grey and Commercial Brown, though not every colour comes in every series. On a wood deck the posts are surface mounted with lag bolts into a continuous header; fascia mounting is engineered for concrete and steel. Imperial warrants materials and manufacturing for 20 years, the paint finish for 5 and plastic parts for 2, and only when Imperial components are used throughout.
Vinyl railings
Alpa railings are vinyl cladding over galvanized steel, in five collections from Classic balusters to Modern Glass, in White, Clay, Cashmere and Tan. Alpa positions the Executive and glass collections for upper walkout decks and low-rise balconies as well as porches. They carry a 5-year materials and workmanship warranty.
Vinyl fencing
Alpa fence panels come pre-assembled in 4' and 6' heights, in 11 collections: Cape Cod, Oxford and Carriage for full privacy, French Garden and English Garden lattice for semi-privacy, and Breton, Urban, Nautical, Hampton, Estate and Lattice Wall. Colours are White, Clay, Cashmere, Tan and Sandalwood. Alpa says not to paint them, because paint voids the 5-year warranty.
Privacy screens
The WPC louver privacy screen is our own wood plastic composite line: 12' boards in a 2" x 4" rectangular or 2" x 2" square profile, in Rosewood, Chocolate, Teak and Coffee, held in black louver brackets and closed with end caps.
Code requirements
Guard height, opening sizes and loading are set by the building code and checked by your building official. Ontario has been on O. Reg. 163/24 since January 2025. Confirm the height and mounting your deck needs before you order.
Frequently Asked Questions
How high does a deck railing need to be in Ontario?
Under the building code a guard is required where the walking surface is more than 600 mm above the ground, and the required height increases for higher decks. Confirm the height with your building official before you order; Imperial makes 36" and 42" railings and Alpa makes 35" and 42" sections.
How are Imperial aluminum railings mounted?
On a wood deck, each post is surface mounted with four 3/8" x 5" lag bolts into a continuous header of 2x6 or larger. On concrete, posts are surface mounted with masonry anchors. Fascia mounting is engineered for concrete and steel.
What colours do Imperial aluminum railings come in?
White, Black, Warm Beige, Clay, Grey and Commercial Brown. Availability varies by railing series; Grey and Commercial Brown are not offered on every system.
What sizes do Alpa vinyl fence panels come in?
Pre-assembled panels in 4' and 6' heights, in 11 collections and five colours: White, Clay, Cashmere, Tan and Sandalwood.
How do I clean vinyl fencing?
Rinse it with a garden hose. Alpa fencing is never painted or stained, and painting it voids the warranty.
What is a louver privacy screen?
Composite boards set side by side with gaps between them and fixed into brackets at the top and bottom of a frame, so the screen blocks the view without being a solid wall. Ours uses 12' WPC boards in a 2" x 4" or 2" x 2" profile in four colours.
