What is the difference between Verona D4 and D4D?

About Kaycan Verona™ Collection

Dark siding has one known weak spot. A deep blue or brown panel in full summer sun runs hotter than a light one, and vinyl that gets hot enough can distort. The Verona Collection is Kaycan's answer. It is made with Helios technology, thermal diffusion agents in the vinyl that guard against heat distortion from the sun. That protection is what lets Kaycan offer this line in deep, saturated colours.

Kaycan's 2026 Verona brochure lists five colours: Urban Blue (511), Boulder Grey (512), Golden Honey (513), Autumn Harvest (514) and Java Brown (516). Kaycan's design team picked them with architects, and they pair a bright, saturated colour with a woodgrain texture. Kaycan's planning advice holds here: build the scheme around what will not change, like the roof, stone or brick, then use a contrasting colour to pick out the architecture.

Fade is the other worry with strong colour. Verona uses Kaycan's Colorfast technology and carries a 25-year fade-resistance warranty on top of the Limited Lifetime Warranty. Panels are premium gauge for added strength and impact resistance, and the base vinyl is Kaycan's Duratron formulation.

There are two profiles, the D4 (0125) and the D4D Dutch lap (0126). Both are 12'6" long, 24 panels per box, 200 sq. ft. per box, so the count is the same whichever face you choose. The matching trim is the 1/2" inside corner (VCBINP), 3" outside corner (VCNN3), 5/8" J-trim (VJB58) and undersill trim (VTUTB). Installation Guide

Critical Installation Rules

Never face-nail siding: always fasten through the nailing hem only
Leave 1/32" clearance between fastener head and nailing hem (panels must move freely)
Space fasteners 12" to 16" apart on centre and centre them in the nail slots
Leave 1/4" clearance at all openings and accessory channel stops; increase to 3/8" when installing below 40°F
Do not caulk between panels or between siding and trim, panels must expand and contract freely
Overlap horizontal panels 1"; excessive overlap restricts free movement and can cause product failure
Stagger end joints so joints in successive courses are at least three courses apart vertically
Check horizontal alignment every fifth or sixth course
Install a level starter strip first: it sets the alignment for all subsequent courses
Apply undersill trim under all windows; punch snap locks on cut panel edges about 6" on centre
Integrate code-compliant flashing with the water-resistant barrier around windows, doors and other openings before siding
Do not install over foil-backed foam facing the siding: it voids the Kaycan warranty
Install in accordance with local building codes and fire regulations
Asbestos siding is a regulated material: contact the appropriate environmental agency or local building official before residing over it

Estimating & Ordering

Formula

Siding required (sq. ft.) = wall areas + (gable width x gable centre height x 0.75), with no deduction for openings and no added waste percentage

1 square = 100 sq. ft.; each Verona box covers 2 squares (200 sq. ft.)

Round each measurement up to the next 3" (0.25 ft), e.g. 10'-1" becomes 10.25'
For each wall, multiply width by the height at the eaves and add the walls together
For each gable, multiply the gable width (including overhangs) by its height at the centre, then multiply by 0.75 to allow for waste cutting along the rake
Add walls and gables. Do not deduct windows and doors; because openings are not deducted and every dimension is rounded up, no extra waste percentage is needed
Divide the total by 100 and round up to the next whole square
Soffit: multiply the length of each eave and rake section by the overhang width and add them together
Accessories: measure the linear feet of starter, J-trim, corner posts, undersill trim and drip cap
Boxes: divide the total siding area by 200 sq. ft. and round up
