Which Kaycan Siding Line Should You Spec?

Spec Prova or Timberlake when you need colour choice, Richmond when you need the flattest and heaviest lap panel, Hardwood Valley II or Verona when the client wants a specific texture, and the 0.050 inch Board and Batten vertical when the elevation calls for vertical. Every line carries a Limited Lifetime warranty; Richmond and Verona add 25 year fade resistance.

Read the coverage column before you price a Kaycan siding order, because it changes the logistics more than the material line. Richmond and the Board and Batten vertical cover 100 square feet per carton where Timberlake and Verona cover 200. A 2,000 square foot wall is ten boxes of Timberlake or twenty of Richmond, which changes your freight, your storage footprint and how many trips the crew makes to the pile. That is a real scheduling difference, not a rounding error.

The other number that decides the look is exposure, the visible height of each course once the panel is locked in. It is what sets how deep the shadow line reads from the street, and Kaycan covers an unusually wide span of it.

A narrow triple 3 reads as fine heritage clapboard and suits a century home in Aurora where a bold panel would look wrong. The 6 inch Richmond bevel throws about twice that shadow and holds its own on a large modern elevation. Montebello is the odd one worth flagging. It is a 7 inch vinyl log profile with a foam underlayment, so it lands in the insulated category rather than beside the lap panels. What the 2004 Gutter Acquisition Added to Your Eave

Kaycan entered the rainware market in 2004 by acquiring Plastmo, and that single move is why the eave is the strongest part of the catalogue. We stock six Kaycan rainware products, more than any other category in the brand.

The choice runs along a cost and durability line. Performance Aluminum Rainware comes in 5 and 6 inch profiles with four downspout types and a never-needs-painting finish. K-Snap vinyl is the scratch-resistant PVC alternative with permanently welded joints and six colours, and the Classic Half-Round is there when the architecture wants a half-round rather than a K-style. ProGuard II and Gutter Sentry handle leaf protection. Ced'R-Vue 9 inch is the cedar-look lap, Ridgewood D-5 is the Dutch lap, VStyle is the flat modern plank and Board and Batten pairs a 12 inch board with a 2-1/4 inch batten. Each carries 8 colours except the board and batten at 4, and the matching prefinished trim runs 16 feet in widths from 4 to 12 inches.

On the stone side, Versetta Stone Ledgestone is a mortarless panel with a G-90 galvanized nail strip, roughly 17 pounds per panel, 2 square feet of coverage and a 110 mph wind rating, which makes it a screw-on rather than a trowel-on product. STONEfaçade takes a different route with a 3/8 inch steel rainscreen frame embedded in the panel at about 15 pounds per square foot. How Much Does Kaycan Siding Cost in Ontario?

Kaycan siding runs 6 to 9 dollars per square foot supplied and installed in Ontario for vinyl lap and vertical profiles, aluminum cladding runs 8 to 12, the Montebello insulated log profile runs 9 to 12, and mortarless stone panels run 9 to 18. Kaycan sits in the same bands as comparable lines because the brand competes on gauge and range rather than on price.

Two notes on reading that chart honestly. The ranges are material families, not individual lines, so a heavy-gauge Richmond wall sits at the top of the vinyl band and a Hardwood Valley II wall sits nearer the middle. And rural Ontario crews generally run 10 to 15 percent under GTA labour rates, so the same elevation prices differently in Georgina than it does in Markham. We quote CanExel engineered wood per job rather than from a band, because the profile, the trim package and the substrate move it too much to publish a useful range.

What an Ontario Winter Does to a Kaycan Wall

Kaycan siding expands and contracts across our temperature swing, and a wall that goes on in July in Newmarket has to survive a January that can sit 50 degrees colder. That is why every panel in this catalogue hangs rather than clamps. Nail in the centre of the slot, leave the fastener head about 1/32 inch off the hem, and let the course float. The heavier Kaycan gauges are more forgiving of a slightly tight nail than a thin panel is, but they are not immune to it.

The second Ontario failure mode is the eave, not the wall. Ice dams form when attic heat melts the underside of the snowpack and the runoff refreezes at a cold overhang, which Natural Resources Canada traces back to attic heat loss rather than to the roofing itself. That is a ventilation problem, and it is why the soffit colour conversation should happen after the net free area conversation.
