Alpa Vinyl Columns and Pillars from Mitten give your porch or entranceway the architectural presence of real wood columns — without the rot, painting, or maintenance. Manufactured by Alpa Ontario Railing Inc. using vinyl extruded in Ontario by Alpa Tech Vinyl, these columns are built to outlast wood, fiberglass, and aluminum wrap alternatives. Choose from 8"×8" square columns or 8" diameter round pillars, both available in 6- to 12-foot heights that cut on-site for a precise fit. Add decorative skirts in four heights (6", 12", 32", 42") to the top, bottom, or both ends for a fully custom look. Both profiles are load-bearing capable when fitted with the appropriate internal support. Available in White, Cashmere, and Tan — coordinated to match Alpa Railings for a seamless, polished exterior.

Alpa Square Columns deliver classic architectural presence to any covered porch, entranceway, or pergola. Each 8"×8" column ships with a matching set of bases and accepts a load-bearing internal support (dimensional lumber or aluminum tube) for structural applications. Decorative skirts slot onto the base and/or top in 6", 12", 32", or 42" heights to add visual depth. Seamlessly compatible with Alpa Railings for a fully coordinated look. Available in White, Cashmere, and Tan.

RDRound Pillars

Alpa Round Pillars bring a timeless, clean aesthetic to porches and covered entrances. The 8" diameter round profile suits most residential porch designs and includes a matching set of bases. Like the square column, the round pillar accepts a load-bearing internal support for structural installations — using either laminated 2"×4" dimensional lumber or an aluminum support tube. Available in White, Cashmere, and Tan.

SKDecorative Skirts

Alpa Decorative Skirts are architectural accent sleeves that slide over the base and/or top of any Alpa column or pillar to instantly elevate its visual character. Available in four heights — 6", 12", 32", and 42" — they can be combined at both ends of a column for a fully dressed look. Finished in the same colours as the column lineup for a perfect match.

Installation Guide

Determine whether the installation is load-bearing or non-load-bearing before beginning. Non-load-bearing installations do not require an internal support. Load-bearing installations MUST use an internal support — either dimensional lumber (laminated 2"×4") or an aluminum support tube.
MEASURING — LOAD BEARING: Measure the overall vertical opening height. Cut dimensional lumber 1" shorter than the overall height. If using an aluminum support tube, cut it 1-1/8" shorter than the overall height. Cut the vinyl column 2-1/4" shorter than the overall height — this places the entire load on the internal support and allows for thermal expansion.
MEASURING — NON-LOAD BEARING: Measure the vertical opening and cut the column to the required length.
SKIRT PRE-ASSEMBLY (Square Column): The mounting plate, trim collar, and skirt sleeve are pre-assembled. If received as separate pieces: attach the trim collar to the skirt sleeve using 1/2" screws through the 4 tabs on the trim collar. Attach the mounting plate to the other end of the sleeve with at least 2 screws. Without a skirt: snap the trim collar and mounting plate directly into place.
ASSEMBLY — SQUARE COLUMN: Slide the vinyl column along with the dimensional lumber or aluminum support tube into the bottom mounting plate assembly. If using dimensional lumber, centre it on the mounting plate. If using an aluminum support tube, ensure the support washers are inserted into the mounting plates before assembly. Attach the top mounting plate assembly to the internal support.
ASSEMBLY — ROUND PILLAR: Slide the column over the internal support and attach the remaining mounting plate to it. For non-load-bearing: assemble the top and bottom mounting plates with the column.
FINAL INSTALLATION: Set the completed assembly in place. Attach the mounting plates to the porch deck/ceiling using non-corrosive screws — one screw per corner. Cover all screw holes with cap plugs, gluing them in place.
All fasteners must be non-corrosive quality. Fasteners are not included and must be supplied by the installer.
CARE & CLEANING: Ordinary dirt and mud usually washes off with a garden hose. If needed, use a non-abrasive household cleaner to remove residue, then rinse thoroughly with a hose. Never use abrasive cleaners or pressure washers on vinyl columns.
WARRANTY CLAIMS: Claims for visible damage must be submitted in writing within 10 days of purchase. All other defect claims must be submitted in writing within 30 days of discovery, provided the 5-year warranty period has not expired. Include a description of the defect and proof of purchase.
