Application Guide

  1. J-CHANNEL CUTTER — DRAIN TABS: Insert the J-channel into the jaws and apply light handle pressure (one click) to create a drain tab. Drain tabs allow water to escape the channel. For notch cutouts and 45-degree miter cuts, use a full handle stroke. Use the graduations on the upper jaw to gauge tab or notch depths from 3/8 to 1-1/4 in. (9.5 to 31.2 mm). Both sides of the jaws cut 45-degree miters for a professional finished look at trim intersections.

  2. J-CHANNEL CUTTER — TIPS: Applying even pressure throughout the cutting stroke prevents over-travel, which can crack drain tabs. Practice on scrap material before working on the finished installation. Cold or aged vinyl is more prone to cracking — take care in low temperatures.

  3. NAIL HOLE PUNCH — USAGE: Position the punch on the panel at the desired nail location and squeeze the handle. The 5/32 × 3/4 in. elongated horizontal slot allows the siding panel to move freely during thermal expansion without the nail binding. Use to add new nail slots when panels cannot reach existing studs, or to elongate existing holes when re-hanging panels.

  4. SIDESWIPER II — PANEL REMOVAL: INSERTION — Wedge the tip of the blade under the overlapping panel and hook onto the back lip of the buttlock. UNLOCKING — Pulling the lip downward, slide the tool along the length of the panel to unlock it and expose the nail row of the panel to be removed. PANEL REPLACEMENT — Lock and nail the replacement panel into place. Use the tool to re-lock the overlapping panel: pull down on the panel lip and press it into the lock of the replacement panel below.

  5. TRIM NAIL PUNCH — USAGE: Set the nail in the nose of the punch and position the tool against the trim surface. Strike the tail end with a hammer to drive the nail flush without denting or marring the material. The nose fits directly into 1/2 in. J-channel for precise positioning. The TNP2R model with nail-retaining clip keeps the nail securely seated from any angle — particularly useful when working on a ladder or reaching to nail overhead soffit.

  6. ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT VINYL SNIPS — CUTTING: Open the blades fully and position the cut start point at the edge of the material. Squeeze firmly through the stroke — the sharp knife-like bevel starts and cuts cleanly through even the thickest vinyl profiles without splintering. The 3 in. (76 mm) cut length per stroke keeps control high for both straight cuts and curves. Replace blades when cuts begin to require noticeably more force.

  7. GENERAL CARE: Clean tools after use to remove vinyl chips and debris. Lightly oil the pivot points on the J-channel cutter and nail hole punch to maintain smooth action. Store in a dry location — nickel plate and black oxide finishes provide rust resistance but avoid prolonged exposure to standing moisture. All Malco tools are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
