The ColorPlus® Technology Touch-Up Kit is James Hardie's colour matched touch-up for Hardie® siding and trim with a ColorPlus® finish: a pint of paint, a nail concealer and an edge sealer, about one kit per 4,000 sq. ft. of siding or 1,600 sq. ft. of trim. It is the only touch-up James Hardie approves on ColorPlus®.
The ColorPlus Touch-Up Kit is the only touch-up James Hardie approves on a ColorPlus finish. Each kit is matched to one ColorPlus colour, and James Hardie's dealer system lists kits for 18 of the 19 Statement Collection colours; Midnight Black is not among them, so we confirm that one with James Hardie on order. A kit holds a pint of paint, a nail concealer for fastener heads and small nicks, and an edge sealer for field cuts. James Hardie estimates one kit covers about 4,000 square feet of siding or 1,600 square feet of trim, so most houses need one kit per colour, and a second if the trim is a different colour from the walls.
The rules for using it come straight from James Hardie's Canadian instructions, and they are strict for a reason. Touch-up is for nail heads, nicks and scrapes smaller than a dime; anything bigger means replacing the piece. It must not freeze, and it goes on only when the air and the siding are above 4°C, which in Ontario means late-season jobs need warm storage for the kit. Caulk, including colour matched caulk, and patching compound are not approved for touching up ColorPlus, nail heads are never caulked, and problems caused by any third-party touch-up paint are not covered by the ColorPlus finish warranty. Every non-factory cut edge that does not end in trim gets the edge sealer.
