Tapco PRO Brakes

Tapco Tools has been the portable siding brake standard since 1961, distributed in Canada by Mitten Building Products. The PRO Series covers every tier of residential and commercial trim fabrication: the PRO 14 for standard and heavy-duty residential work, the PRO 19 for wider soffit and fascia stock, and the MAX-I-MUM XL for commercial-grade bending with extended material capacities. All PRO brakes feature Tapco's patented Moving Pivot Hinge, 180-degree overbend hemming, and the expandable PRO System accessory platform including the Snap Stand, Side-Winder, Brake Buddy, and PRO Cut-Off.

Profiles & Specifications

Tapco PRO Brakes - Tapco PRO 19 Brake — 19 in. Throat profile
PRO 19Tapco PRO 19 Brake — 19 in. Throat

The Tapco PRO 19 is the largest-throat model in the PRO Series portable bending brake line, with a 19 in. throat depth and 2-3/8 in. mouth opening. It handles soft aluminum up to .030 in., galvanized steel up to 28 gauge, and copper sheet & coil up to 16 oz. The patented Moving Pivot Hinge provides increased bending power, and the unique hemming capability allows for 180-degree overbends to produce more rigid panels. The efficient pulling motion of the hemming handle keeps material securely in place without interference, while the unique toggle lock system reduces operator fatigue. Independent bending handles allow for easy operation and let the operator work closer to the material. Available in 8'6", 10'6", and 12'6" lengths. Compatible with the full PRO System accessory line: Snap Stand, Side-Winder, Brake Buddy, PRO Cut-Off, M2X Measuring Gauge, and S2X Material Stop Gauge.

Application Guide

  1. BASIC HEMMING — 6 STEPS: (1) Insert the material you wish to hem into the brake. (2) Close and lock the bender on the material. (3) Bend as far as you can go. (4) Remove the material from the bender. (5) Position the bent edge of the material in the Hemming Pocket on top of the Anvil. (6) Lift the Bending Handles and compress the bend for a completed hem. The Hemming Pocket on the Anvil creates a 180-degree overbend to produce more rigid, factory-quality panels.

  2. TOGGLE LOCK SYSTEM: The unique toggle lock system secures the bender on the material with the pulling motion of the Hemming Handle, keeping the material in place without interference during bending. This design reduces operator fatigue and excessive wear and tear on the brake.

  3. INDEPENDENT BENDING HANDLES: The independent bending handles are positioned along the length of the brake, allowing you to work closer to the material and produce truer, more even bends across the full working length. Always use more than one handle when bending.

  4. CARE — CLEAN CLAMPING SURFACES: Clean the clamping surfaces each day before using. Use only clean shop towels that are free of dirt, oil, and metal chips. Do not use the bender near a saw table, as cuttings can get between clamping surfaces and cause excessive wear or material scratching. Brush away any cuttings or filings that accumulate.

  5. CARE — TRANSPORT AND STORAGE: Transport your PRO Brake in the unlocked position. You may transport it in the locked position if you clamp a piece of cardboard or vinyl siding between the clamping surfaces to protect them.

  6. CARE — BENDING EDGE: If your material is getting scratched, examine the Stainless Bending Edge, Base Hinge, and Moving Hinge for roughness or burrs. Remove burrs with emery cloth or replace excessively worn parts. The optional PRO Cut-Off will help eliminate excessive wear to the bending edge.

  7. CARE — LUBRICATION: Use a lightweight spray oil along the moving pivot hinge after every 40 hours of use.

  8. COMMON SHAPES: The Tapco PRO Brake produces a wide range of standard trim profiles including: All Purpose Sill Trim, Fascia Trim, One Piece Soffit Mitre, Rake Trim with J-Channel, Soffit or Frieze Trim, Counter Flashing, Brick Frieze, F-Channel / Inside Corner, and Window or Door Casing with J-Channel.
