Harrywood Block

Harrywood Block by MAC Metal Architectural reinterprets the look of slender ceramic cladding in pre-painted galvanized steel. Precision cross-grooves at 12" or 24" intervals allow three distinct installation patterns — Aligned Joint, Offset Joint, and Breaking Bond — giving designers and contractors the freedom to create unique facades without additional materials. The serrated interlocking system eliminates exposed screws entirely, while the TEXTURAL III & IV matte paint system reproduces the depth of oxidized metals including zinc and brushed copper. Miami Dade hurricane-resistant (ZHLA.63) and WUI California-compliant.

Installation Guide

  1. Harrywood Block can be installed with cross-grooves every 12" or every 24", creating three distinct patterns: Aligned Joint (grooves aligned across all panels), Offset Joint (grooves staggered), and Breaking Bond (staircase effect with 1" gap + 11" after each row's grooves).

  2. Store panels indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area. If outdoor storage is necessary, place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures — these cause the protective film to adhere more strongly to panels, making removal difficult and potentially leaving adhesive marks.

  3. Do NOT install over ZIP System Insulated R-Sheathing or similar dual-composite panels — insufficient rigidity causes deformation and oil canning under varying sun and temperature exposure.

  4. Install Starting Strip (M10SHW) first using a laser level or chalk line, 3" above the base of the wall. The strip must be perfectly level — it guides every row above it.

  5. Use MAC Anticorrosion screws (A059.250 wood screw or A060.250 K-LATCH self-drilling) every 16" or 24" o.c. in the center of pre-punched holes. Drive with moderate contact only — do not overtighten. Screws must not exert upward or downward pressure on the panel.

  6. Remove the protective film from panels only after installation is complete where possible — leaving film in place during installation protects the finish from site damage.

  7. Check alignment every 3–4 panels. If a furring strip section is not aligned, leave a small gap between the wall and the furring strip rather than forcing the panel — this prevents excess pressure and oil canning.

  8. Leave 1/8"–1/4" expansion gap between panel lengths at all longitudinal joints. On walls over 30 ft., install vertical expansion molding; on multi-storey structures, install horizontal transition molding at every floor.

  9. For Aligned Joint pattern: center the first panel's grooves so equal material falls at both ends; position each subsequent panel so its first groove falls 12" after the first groove of the previous panel.

  10. For hurricane-resistant ZHLA.63 installation (Miami Dade): use 5/8" plywood with 2.5" nails at 8" o.c., SOPRASEAL STICK 1100T waterproofing membrane at sill, SOPRASEAL VP self-adhesive vapour barrier, wood furring 1"×3" at 16" o.c., and MAC screws every 16".

  11. Cut panels using the MAC Guillotine designed for Harrywood siding, metal snips, or electric shears. Electric saws and angle grinders are NOT covered by MAC warranty.

  12. Notify your supplier before installing more than 144 sq. ft. (2 boxes) if any product issue is discovered during installation to ensure warranty coverage is preserved.
