About Norwood Mini

Norwood Mini is the narrow member of MAC's Norwood family. The plank face is 3.4 inches instead of 5 3/8, but the depth (7/16 inch), the 12 foot length and the beveled anti-siphoning edge are the same. From the street the tighter spacing reads finer and busier, closer to Scandinavian strip boards than to standard lap siding. Some designers run it over a whole elevation. More often it is mixed with full-width Norwood.

That mix is the main reason to choose it. MAC's own layout examples include 2 Mini to 1 Norwood, 3 Mini to 1 Norwood and 1 Mini to 3 Norwood. Work the sequence out against the wall height before ordering, since the narrow plank adds courses. One ordering detail catches people: in Wood Collection colours, Norwood Mini is made in 26 gauge only. If it will sit beside 24 gauge Norwood, MAC asks that both be ordered at the same time so the clip can be adjusted in production.

Each box holds 12 panels at 144 inches and covers 40.5 sq. ft. Screws go through pre-punched holes every 16 or 24 inches into 5/8 inch plywood or furring at 16 inches on centre, and the next plank hides them. In ASTM D5206 testing the panel held 5626 Pa (117.5 psf) at 16 inch spacing and 3830 Pa (80 psf) at 24. There is no vented Norwood Mini. If the soffit needs to breathe, MAC makes a vented version of Norwood only.

The Wood Collection shades are each printed in six plank variations that should go up in random order. Signature and Inspiration colours such as Anthracite, Brushed Zinc and Titanium Black come in 24 gauge. MAC's 40-year warranty covers paint chipping or peeling, discolouration and chalking.

Installation Guide

Wood Collection panels come in 6 plank variations per colour (numbered #1 to #6 on the back). Install in random order, never follow numerical sequence to avoid a wallpaper effect. Boxes come pre-mixed; each box contains 12 × 12-foot planks = 40.5 sq. ft.
Norwood Mini (3.4" exposure) can be combined with Norwood (5.38" exposure) on the same wall, for example 2 Mini x 1 Norwood, 3 Mini x 1 Norwood or 1 Mini x 3 Norwood. Calculate the combined layout before starting installation. In Wood Collection colours Norwood Mini is 26 gauge only; when combining with 24 gauge Norwood, order both together so the clip is adjusted in production.
Store panels indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area. If outdoor storage is necessary, place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, heat causes the protective film to adhere more strongly, making removal difficult. Cover with a tarp.
Do NOT install over ZIP System Insulated R-Sheathing or similar dual-composite panels, insufficient rigidity causes movement, deformation, and oil canning under varying weather and sun exposure.
Install Starting Strip (M10D) using a laser level or chalk line, 3" above the base of the wall. Secure with one screw first, verify level, then fasten fully. For vertical installation, replace M10D with M50D drip strip, no starter strip required.
Use MAC Anticorrosion screws (A059.250 wood screw or A062.250 K-LATCH self-drilling) every 16" or 24" o.c. in the center of pre-punched holes. Drive with moderate contact only, do not overtighten. Screws must not exert upward or downward pressure on the panel.
Remove the protective film from panels before installation where possible to allow visual inspection of quality as work progresses.
Check alignment every 3 or 4 panels. If a furring strip section is not aligned, leave a small gap between the wall and the furring strip rather than forcing the panel, prevents excess pressure and oil canning.
Leave 1/8" to 1/4" expansion gap between panel lengths at all longitudinal joints. On walls over 30 ft., install vertical expansion molding; on multi-storey structures, install horizontal transition molding at every floor.
For inside corners, install QJ Trim M22D and slide the panel end into the molding, leaving a 1/8" gap for expansion. For outside corners, install M20D (with integrated J Trim) before proceeding with panel installation.
Cut panels using the MAC Guillotine designed for Norwood siding, metal snips, or electric shears. Electric saws and angle grinders are NOT covered by MAC warranty.
Notify your supplier before installing more than 144 sq. ft. (2 boxes) if any product issue is discovered during installation to ensure warranty coverage is preserved.
