Blueskin WB Window & Door Flashing

Blueskin WB is a self-adhered SBS rubberized asphalt flashing membrane for window and door rough openings, sheathing joints, and skylights. It bonds directly to OSB, plywood, concrete, and metal surfaces without flame or adhesive, provides an air and vapour-impermeable seal, and self-seals around nails and screws. Available in 4", 6", 9", and 12" widths at 15.1 m (50 ft) per roll.

Self-adhered SBS rubberized asphalt membrane laminated to a blue engineered polypropylene film. Designed for window and door rough openings, sheathing joints, skylights, and anywhere a weather-tight air and vapour barrier seal is required. Peel-and-stick — no flame or adhesive required. Self-seals when penetrated with nails or screws. Available in four roll widths: 4" (100 mm), 6" (150 mm), 9" (225 mm), and 12" (300 mm).

For best adhesion results, especially in cold weather (<10°C/50°F), prime with Blueskin Spray Prep Primer (aerosol) or Aquatac Primer by roller or brush. Coverage rate varies by substrate porosity: 1 litre per 2–6 m² (500 ft²/gal). Allow primer to thoroughly dry, then apply Blueskin WB the same day.

Installation Guide

  1. STORAGE — Store rolls on end in original packaging. Protect from weather or store in an enclosed area not subject to heat over 49°C (120°F).

  2. SURFACE PREP — Acceptable substrates: precast concrete, cast-in-place concrete, concrete block, primed steel, aluminum (mill finish or anodized), galvanized metal, gypsum board, and wood. All surfaces must be clean of oil, dust, and excess mortar. Strike masonry joints flush. Concrete must be smooth, without large voids, spalled areas, or sharp protrusions, cured a minimum of 14 days, and dry at time of application. Where curing compounds are used, they must be clear resin based — no oil, wax, or pigments. Install OSB with the smooth side out for best adhesion.

  3. PRIMING — For best adhesion results (especially in cold weather <10°C/50°F), prime surfaces with Blueskin Spray Prep Primer (available in aerosol spray cans) or Aquatac Primer applied by roller or brush at 1 litre per 2–6 m² (500 ft²/gal) depending on porosity and texture. Allow primer to thoroughly dry before applying membrane. Apply Blueskin WB the same day the primer is applied. Tip: dry primer provides a firm bond to the substrate and cannot be easily rubbed off with your fingertip.

  4. ALIGN — Position membrane for alignment with the protective film in place before removing the release liner.

  5. APPLY — Roll back and remove the protective film, then press the membrane firmly in place. Once the membrane is entirely in place, apply firm pressure over the entire surface to ensure full contact. When using membrane with brick ties, position membrane, press in place, and cut for ties or projections. Membrane applied to the underside of a substrate (e.g. ceilings) requires mechanical fastening through treated wood or galvanized metal strapping immediately after installation.

  6. LAP — Membrane must be lapped a minimum of 50 mm (2") on all side and end laps. Orient laps shingle-fashion to shed water.

  7. LIMITATIONS — Do not use in direct contact with flexible PVC/vinyl membranes. Membrane is rated for up to six weeks of UV exposure but is not designed for permanent exposure to ultraviolet light — cover as soon as practical after application. Some sealants may discolour or be softened by contact with the asphalt compound — contact the sealant manufacturer for compatibility information.
