Gutter guards keep leaves and pine needles out of the eavestrough so it can drain. We stock seven: five from Alu-Rex and two from Kaycan. They split two ways. Some are built into the hanger that holds a new gutter up (DoublePro, Hover Pro, the T-Rex continuous hanger, and Kaycan's Gutter Sentry, which Kaycan calls a gutter hanger and cover in one), and some go on top of a gutter that is staying (Gutter Clean Pro, the Gutter Clean System, and Kaycan's ProGuard II, which Kaycan positions for existing gutter systems).
The other split is pine needles. Alu-Rex's dual-layer guards carry a lifetime clog-free warranty that includes coniferous areas, and its single-layer guards carry a 25-year prorated clog-free warranty that excludes conifers. Pine needles first
DoublePro, Hover Pro and Gutter Clean Pro are dual layer: a Carbon Black top sheet with 7/64 in. micro-perforations over a slotted bottom layer, in 3105 H24 aluminum. Alu-Rex gives all three a lifetime clog-free warranty that includes coniferous areas. The Gutter Clean System and the T-Rex are single layer, with a 25-year prorated clog-free warranty that excludes conifers. Under pines and spruce, that warranty line is the decision.
New gutters or existing gutters
- New 5 in. or 6 in. gutters: DoublePro, a continuous hanger and guard in one piece screwed to the fascia every 24 in. Hover Pro does the same job for hemmed-back gutters without a single screw through the gutter. - New 5, 6 or 7 in. gutters: T-Rex, a continuous hanger with a single-layer leaf guard, in Mill or Carbon Black. - Existing 5 in. or 6 in. gutters, any bracket type: Gutter Clean Pro, with a Flex-Seal vinyl back strip against the fascia. - Existing standard, ZIP, copper or half-round gutters: the Gutter Clean System, which has a version for each.
Drainage
Alu-Rex rates the dual-layer guards at 40.6 in. of water per hour per linear foot on a 5 in. gutter and 49.2 in. on a 6 in. gutter, and the single-layer Alu-Perf guards at 29.7 in. on a 5 in. gutter. The Gutter Clean System is rated to still drain 12.6 in. per hour with 80% of its perforations blocked.
Kaycan guards
Gutter Sentry is made by Custom Metal Products and distributed by Kaycan as a gutter hanger and cover in one for new gutters: it snaps over the back of the gutter, tucks under the front lip and is screwed through, in 5 in. (GS2025) and 6 in. (GS5026), with twenty 1/8 in. holes per square inch. ProGuard II is high tensile strength aluminum on a channelled mounting system, which Kaycan positions for existing gutter systems. Kaycan does not publish a warranty term or a drainage rate for either, so ask for them with your quote.

What is the difference between DoublePro and Hover Pro?
Both are Alu-Rex continuous hangers with the same dual-layer guard built in, for new 5 in. and 6 in. gutters, and both carry lifetime clog-free, sturdiness and manufacturing warranties. DoublePro is screwed through to the fascia every 24 in. Hover Pro is a floating hanger for hemmed-back gutters that holds the gutter without a screw through it, so the gutter can expand and contract with temperature.
