Installation Guide

Critical Installation Rules

  1. Can only be installed vertically — no horizontal installation permitted

  2. Double furring is mandatory in Quebec and the Maritimes; strongly recommended in Ontario

  3. Install vertical furring strips (min. 3/8" thick), then horizontal 1"×3" furring strips every 16" over top

  4. Maintain minimum 1-1/4" fastener penetration into stud, strapping, or combination thereof

  5. Spiral shank nails require minimum 1-1/8" stud penetration

  6. Batten nails must be a minimum of 2" long — pre-drill every 16" through batten and board

  7. Center the batten above the groove and nail at 16" O.C.

  8. Touch-up all visible nails immediately after installation to prevent moisture ingress

  9. For horizontal batten trim, install Z-flashing on top of the trim; add a second Z-flashing at the lower end

  10. Never recut the batten — the original factory paint must remain on the edge

  11. Keep siding in a dry, unheated, well-ventilated area, at least 6" off the ground during storage

  12. Maintain minimum 8" (203 mm) clearance between the bottom edge of siding and grade

  13. Seal all gaps between siding and trim with a high-quality, non-hardening sealant; leave 3/16" expansion gap at trim junctions

Storage & Handling

  • Inspect siding visually once a year
  • Clean with a low-pressure garden hose (under 100 psi) — NEVER use a pressure washer
  • For stubborn dirt, use a soft bristle brush with non-abrasive laundry detergent (1/3 cup per 3 litres of water); rinse thoroughly
  • NEVER use harsh/abrasive detergents, pressure washers, or products containing acids, ammonia, or bleach
  • Touch-up all bare wood areas with touch-up paint matching the factory colour
  • Check and redo sealant joints as soon as they begin to harden or crack
