Double furring is mandatory in Quebec and the Maritimes; strongly recommended in Ontario

Install vertical furring strips (min. 3/8" thick), then horizontal 1"×3" furring strips every 16" over top

Maintain minimum 1-1/4" fastener penetration into stud, strapping, or combination thereof

Spiral shank nails require minimum 1-1/8" stud penetration

Batten nails must be a minimum of 2" long — pre-drill every 16" through batten and board

Center the batten above the groove and nail at 16" O.C.

Touch-up all visible nails immediately after installation to prevent moisture ingress

For horizontal batten trim, install Z-flashing on top of the trim; add a second Z-flashing at the lower end

Never recut the batten — the original factory paint must remain on the edge

Keep siding in a dry, unheated, well-ventilated area, at least 6" off the ground during storage

Maintain minimum 8" (203 mm) clearance between the bottom edge of siding and grade

Seal all gaps between siding and trim with a high-quality, non-hardening sealant; leave 3/16" expansion gap at trim junctions
