MittenLevelwall Insulated Housewrap

Mitten Levelwall

Mitten Levelwall combines rigid EPS foam insulation with a reflective aluminum facer in a single rigid housewrap panel. Available in five thicknesses (1/4"–1"), it delivers R-values up to 3.85 standalone and 5.83 as a system — 1600% higher than fabric roll housewraps. The patented Grid System simplifies site cutting; 1,000+ breather holes per sq ft ensure vapour permeability without sacrificing rigidity.

Profiles & Specifications

Mitten Levelwall - Levelwall Insulated Housewrap Panel profile
LEVELWALL-EPSLevelwall Insulated Housewrap Panel

Rigid EPS foam insulation board with a reflective aluminum facer — a single panel that replaces both a fabric housewrap and separate foam insulation. The polystyrene core delivers R-values 1600% higher than fabric roll housewraps. Over 1,000 breather holes per square foot allow water vapor to escape without compromising board rigidity, protecting against moisture buildup, mold, and dry rot. A patented Grid System printed on each board simplifies cutting around windows, doors, and roof lines. Available in five thicknesses from 1/4" to 1". Contains no CFCs, no harmful chemicals, no toxic additives.

Core MaterialPremium quality polystyrene foam (EPS) — rigid, closed-cell
FacerReflective aluminum foil — both provides additional R-value via radiant barrier when adjacent to a 3/8" dead air space
Breather HolesOver 1,000 per square foot — allows water vapor permeability without affecting board rigidity
Grid SystemPatented printed measurement grid on board face — simplifies cutting around windows, doors, and roof lines

R-Value RangeR-0.96 (1/4") to R-3.85 (1") standalone · R-2.95 to R-5.83 system (with 3/8" dead air space)
Fire RatingCombustible — must not be exposed to flame or ignition sources; local codes may require protective/thermal barrier. Meets IBC/IRC Section 2603.

Installation Guide

  1. WALL PREPARATION — Install Levelwall over exterior wall sheathing in new construction or remodeling. Install a water resistant barrier (WRB) against the building sheathing first. Ensure all wall penetrations are properly sealed and flashed. Inspect any existing WRB and repair or replace damaged sections before proceeding.

  2. FASTENING — Use corrosion-resistant roofing nails with a minimum 3/8" (9.5mm) head diameter; 6d ring-shank nails with 15/16" (24mm) plastic washers; self-drilling screws with 3/4" (10mm) cap washers; or 1" wide-crown (25.4mm) No. 16 gauge staples. Fasteners must penetrate the substrate a minimum of 3/4" (19mm). Space fasteners 24" (610mm) on centre around the perimeter and at all vertical framing members. Drive fasteners flush with the board — do not countersink.

  3. ORIENTATION & SEAMING — Install boards horizontally or vertically to minimize the number of seams. Stagger board seams relative to structural sheathing joints. Butt edges of boards tightly. For optimal R-value performance, face the reflective aluminum side toward the surface that will result in the largest average air space (requires minimum 3/8" dead air space to achieve system R-value).

  4. SEALING & TAPING — Tape all seams using professional grade contractor tape or flexible flashing tape. Use a roller to fully secure tape — poorly applied tape can fishmouth and may lead to water infiltration. Inspect the installed boards for holes and gaps; seal with tape or fill with expandable foam sealant or caulk. Trim foam repairs flush with the face of the boards. Flash around all openings and penetrations; optionally seal with flexible flashing at fenestration points.

  5. STARTER STRIP — Snap a chalk line at the lowest point of the wall to be sided. Align the bottom of the Levelwall boards with the chalk line and fasten. Attach the vinyl siding starter strip per the siding manufacturer's instructions, aligning its bottom with the bottom of the insulation boards. A level starter strip is critical for proper siding performance.

  6. CUTTING — Use the printed Grid System on each board to mark and cut accurately around windows, doors, and roof lines. A retractable blade safety knife is recommended. Always cut away from your body and keep fingers clear of the blade path. Use a sharp blade; retract the blade fully when not in use.

  7. CLEARANCES & CAUTION — Levelwall must not contact hot objects including chimneys, furnace flues, water heater flues, and lighting fixtures. EPS foam is combustible — keep away from open flames and ignition sources. Local building codes may require a protective or thermal barrier. Conform to all applicable local building codes.
